1st full session- Explain floor layout- elbows, low blocks, circle, posts, mid, etc.

1          Shooting                   Jumpers, lay-ups, long shots, foul shots

2          Passing                     All types- 3x threat, fakes, receive drills/tips

3          Rebounding             Position, anticipating, blocking out, follow shot

4          Defense                    Zones (basic), man, how to guard and intersect

5          Team positions      Team work- who does what, where. Put them together so they see how it all works.

As skills/understanding improve for particular groups, move beyond and get to the scrimmage level, and work on roles. Back to basics if necessary.

If there is real effort, allow controlled games for remaining time as rewards. Help them visualize what they are to do, then follow through and do it.

BUILD CONFIDENCE, no matter their level or age. Take the time to give them individual attention when possible, show them how to do it, or get an assistant to help them. Give them (and their parents) tips on what they can do at home. When we get done we want them to always want to get better, we have encouraged them to stay in shape, we have improved their focus, taught good sportsmanship, and hopefully have increased their self-confidence and competitiveness in a positive fashion. We need to give our youth the necessary tools to build their future- in sports and more importantly in life.

RECENTLY COMPLETED PROGRAMS:

FALL BASKETBALL- 3 on 3 Basketball League. Bigger and even better than the summer program. The level of competition was really great and the kids of all age groups had a good time while they gained positive experience in ball handling, movement, shooting, and really hard-nosed basketball. Congratulations to all participants, including the age group group champions and runner-ups. Best of luck in your winter seasons.

SUMMER BASKETBALL 3 ON 3- Great turnout for our first 3 on 3 basketball program. Each age group had a lot of kids that have some real potential, and all of them seemed to have fun. Improvements were seen in team play, ball-handling, and basic skills, especially in the younger groups. The coed system in the 5-9 and 10-13 groups was a delight and went especially well. We look forward to all of our summer groups returning for the fall season.

SPRING MULTI-SPORT PROGRAMS - Basketball and Flag Football. Congratulations  to our 2009 Spring multi-sport Program graduates. Much improvement was seen in each participant's ability and confidence. For those graduates participating in our Summer program, welcome back!
